Our Philosophy

photo 40.jpg

Our aim with our program is to prepare young people for the cultural complexities of a contemporary global world in the best educational systems that America has to offer: The Boy Scouts of America, Barton's International Academy at Arizona State University's Polytechnic campus, and the College of Technology and Innovation.

Barton's method is to bring Chinese and American youth together in safe environments, to help develop character, effective ways of thinking; learning others languages, culture and values through a variety of appealing activities with technology, nature, sports, arts and academics. Students become independent and helpful developing physical, mental and social emotional fitness becoming happy, responsible, and creative problem solves

• What we do is to "help and inspire children to become conquerors of their universe"
• We believe that all human beings desire to be functionally independent problem solvers and creatively and intellectually challenged
• They wish to be the captain of their own ship;
Boy Scouts say: row their own canoe
• We basically help young people with their right-of-passage

We simply facilitated kids own natural instincts and curiosities in safe and professionally run environments

• We incorporate a variety of interesting activities
• Expose kids to the world around them and latest technologies
• Allow them to select and choose for themselves from adult provided options
• Whatever kids can do on their own we let them do
• Then, we get out of the way and allow them to figure things out on their own
• Emphasis is on rewarding desired behavior instead of punishing unwanted behavior

Families choose Barton's International Academy, over other programs, because they trust the advantages we provide young people. Our curriculum speaks for itself giving students a competitive edge through exposure to diversity with comprehensive programs.

The competitive advantage students receive at Barton's is a proven American educational system of over 50 years, valued by elites, that inspires creative, independent thinking and problem solving. Students walk away more confident, feeling good about themselves, having learned new skills, which is a very affective social, emotional and psychological force for success in ones work and life. All children at Barton's will find themselves, the journey within, discovering fulfilling interest, talents, and relationships.

Last week, Paradise Valley Unified School District hosted its first group of Chinese visitors, 13 students from Barton’s International Academy in Beijing.

The group spent a week at Whispering Wind Academy, a district elementary school in northeast Phoenix, attending classes alongside Paradise Valley students and getting a taste of what school in America is like.

The Chinese students’ visit was part of the district’s renewed push to “look globally,” one of the goals Superintendent Jim Lee cited in his annual “state of the district” speech in January. Then, Lee spoke of visiting China for the first time six months earlier and wanting to broaden horizons for Paradise Valley students.

After Lee’s remarks, the governing board approved a partnership with Barton’s International Academy in conjunction with the district’s Mandarin-language programs.

At Whispering Wind Academy, all students take a half hour of Chinese every other day. Next year, kindergarten and first-grade students at the school will receive math and science instruction in Mandarin for half the day. Eventually, the school will move toward half-day immersion for all of its students, Principal Johnny Brownlie said.
